Omnitele Benchmarks Mobile Service Quality in Sweden
Telenor Sweden, a leading provider of fixed and mobile voice and data services in Sweden, contracted Omnitele to benchmark the end-user QoS of mobile voice and data services in Sweden in Q1/2013. The project objective was to assess the competitive quality positioning of two service providers: the perceived market leader Telia and the challenger Telenor. The campaign was extensive including 79 biggest cities, 550 individual test locations, and 30 000 file transfer tests executed with state of the art commercial devices. The results indicate that the end-user perceived mobile voice and data service quality is very high in Sweden. In data services the challenger Telenor has a competitive edge against Telia. In voice services both operators provide extremely good service quality and the differences between operators are marginal.
“There are many opinions about the quality of the mobile networks, but few objective tests showing the facts. We primarily wanted to measure the quality of our own network, but chose to simultaneously benchmark with the operator that many consider to be the market leader. We see the project outcome as a proof that our efforts produce results, and that we are on the right track. We are also very pleased with the performance of Omnitele. The project timeline was tight and they provided us with tangible results that truly support our busines objectives.” said Magnus Zetterberg, CTO from Telenor
“Telenor provided us an interesting challenge to benchmark the mobile service quality in Sweden. Our objective was to assess the true end-user perceived quality and in my view we succeeded pretty well. The results show that Sweden is clearly a front-runner in the deployment of advanced mobile technologies. Both operators can be proud of their work. Given the highly competitive market landscape of the country I can also say that the challenger operator Telenor has made a tremendous job in network rollout. Country-wide average bitrates of 10Mbit/s in 3G and 30 Mbit/s in 4G can be considered a tough challenge for any operator on the globe.”, comments Mikko Valtonen, Business Development Manager from Omnitele
