Omnitele Ltd. is the radio network design partner for DNA’s new terrestrial HDTV network using the new DVB-T2 technology. The network is one of the three innovations that have been shortlisted for the IBC Innovation Award 2011 in content delivery.

IBC ( is the leading global tradeshow for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of broadcasting media and entertainment. The event awards the very latest developments in broadcasting, mobile TV, IPTV, digital signage and R&D.

Omnitele was contracted by DNA Ltd to participate in the innovative project regarding DNA Ltd developing TV-services for the terrestrial network and implementing their own transmitter network uniquely using existing cellular network towers.

”The project started in January 2010 and will continue. The rapid DVB-T2 network deployment was possible by selecting technological forerunners and reliable partners to our project and seeking synergies from our existing platforms e.g. cable-TV infrastructure, IP-backbone network and our mobile network with all its towers and Gigabit Ethernet connections. The cooperation with Omnitele Ltd. has been very flexible and smooth and our target is to cover about 85% of the Finnish population by the end of 2011” says Olli Knuuttila, Technical Specialist, DNA Ltd.

”We are delighted to have been chosen to be part of this innovative project regarding delivering HDTV effectively via this new innovative network structure, which includes significant usage of SFN (single frequency networks)” comments Markus Mettälä, Consultant, Omnitele Ltd.
