Omnitele was contracted by DNA Ltd. to audit the 3G networks in the area of the 15 biggest cities in Finland and to perform a comparison between the data transfer capabilities of the three competing mobile networks. The measurements used in the comparison were completed in September 2011.

The goal of the research was to find out the potential differences between the data transfer
capabilities of the three biggest mobile operators in the Finnish markets; DNA, Elisa and Sonera. The measurements were performed with the most developed 3G USB modem available, by drive testing and hot spot measurements in each network.

Omnitele delivered to DNA Ltd. a comprehensive report on the measurement results and an analysis of the differences on the networks. In addition DNA Ltd. received an “easy-to-read” summary which the company was able to use for their marketing purposes.

”Data service is currently the driver in Finnish mobile market and DNA wants to offer the best
end user experience. For us it’s very important to get frequently an unbiased overview of mobile data service quality in general and at the same time benchmark our network against the competition. Omnitele has the right tools and skillful staff to conduct this type of project in an time efficient manner“ says Jarkko Laari, Planning manager, Radio Networks, DNA Ltd.

“Operators in the Finnish mobile markets are investing heavily to further improve the data service quality of the consumer, and clear improvement in the service performance canbe seen compared to the benchmark carried out in spring 2011. Also differences between competing operators’ service level are visible” comments Ville Laakso, Head of Network Design and Development business unit, Omnitele Ltd.
